Things that go Bump in the Night
The British manufacturer, of some of the most advanced Night Vision and Thermal Imaging systems, Thermoteknix approached us with a concept for some advertising and marketing images for their military and law enforcement range of products. They were looking to create a range of images that featured their products in a dark night environment, originally we looked at shooting on locations, but with the restraints on locations and light difficulties, we decided to shoot all in studio.
Thermoteknix were wanting a good combination of images representing a very modern military and police force style to go with their Night Vision and Thermal products. We looked into creating three different looks, one was a UKSF Green look involving Crye Precision Multicam uniform and mixture of C2R and T3 Gear. next was a UKSF Task Force Thunder uniform. A simple mixture of Black Crye Precision combat uniform and Multicam plate carrier and helmet. These have been seen in the last year during the 2017 Terror incidents that activated Operation Temperer. UK Special Forces were deployed across the UK after a spate of terror attacks. This was one of the rare times, United Kingdom Special Forces made up of SAS, SBS and SRR were overtly operating in UK Cities and Suburban areas, with little effort to blend them in with regular police forces.
The third was to create an modern Police and Law Enforcement role, for this we moved away from the traditional black noddy suit look of the SO19 and decided to look at the recently assembled CTSFO units. These highly equipped and specialised police officers, originally put together in preparation for the 2012 olympic games and who have now grown to become a national compatible network of officers who regularly train with UKSF at a level approaching the SAS and SBS involving live fire CQB training, fast roping for rapid deployment in built up areas. Their inform moves away from the original black clad and has moved to a Wolf / Stone Grey colour of combat uniform and body armour made by UK defence manufacturer C2R FAST. These three sets were mixed a little with various different weapon systems and helmets to utilise the various products Thermoteknix manufacture.
With so many products with so many variations, we had our work cut out. Alarms going off at 4am to get to the studio to get in, prep for clients arrival at 7 am and then begin shooting soon after. We went though the day, shooting one set while starting to prep for the next, rotating around and making full use of the day that our client had booked us for. Smashing out dozens of images that we would then look at composing into shadows or compositing into scenes.... After a hardcore full day wrapping at 5pm, we headed home for well earned food, drink and sleep, and the following post processing to come.
Around 15 hours of editing time later, images were delivered on time for the clients graphics team to send to print.
The resounding email from them simply stating "Stirling Work"...... That says it for us :)
A massive thank you to AM Tactical for their assistance in sourcing equipment and to Backcountry Workshop for their technical expertise on set.
