And its a wrap!!!… Winter advertising shoot out dartmoor! What on earth was I thinking when I came up with the idea. The Alarm clocks went off at 4:30 am to be on the road and on location for the Blue Hour as the twighlight of the morning popped its head up over the Okehampton ranges…..
United States client, tactical equipment manufacturer T3 Gear, approached us to put together a shoot set for their product range., this time with a twist towards the civilian market. Our last shoot for them with their MultiCam range of plate carriers and packs went down a storm, this time round we were asked to encapsulate a more civilian / hiker look to the set of images and after some scouting and idea briefs and mood walls from the client, we set our locations and began prepping.
Jonsey from Backcountry Workshop was my right hand man as usual for a project like this. He was able to help with logistics and additional key planning. Additionally we had Walshy, Paul and Shane on hand as the “Talent” for the day being ushered and directed for the photos as well as Max… Shane’s working belgian malinois who was able to keep us all entertained and on our toes.
Dartmoor is a cold, barren and pretty foul place…… pretty, but speak to any bootneck who’s earned their green lid, and they will tell you of that feeling as they set off on their 30 miler from Okehampton. Okehampton is one of the last wildernesses in the UK, and its a beast of a place. That and the tales of Wisht Hounds that roam the moors at night…. Hey… gotta have our own cool myths in the UK right!
Anyhow…. With a 0730 location start for the photoshoot and then rocking though the day until 16:30 we battled gale winds on top of Yes Tor, freezing fog rolling in across from the south, and hardened ice that made walking on the rough roads around the area seriously lethal… At one point, a single patch of ice took down almost three of the team. We packed in staged portraits, action dog handling shots and some adventure training abseiling. Jonsey kept the coffee going with some blends from the guys at Contact Coffee… Much needed through the day!
Then home…. Done and dusted….. And the editing begins.
Just now, as I began to type out this message, I’ve just finished off the edits for the hundred plus image that are packaged and ready to be sent stateside for T3 Gear. Its been a fantastic opportunity to build on their brands look and very much look forward to working with them in the future.
We’ll let you know when they start to use the work and will make sure to show our beautiful artwork once it starts to go live.
