Commercial Photography That Helps Businesses Stand Out
Every business has a story to tell.
Sometimes that’s a product you’ve spent years developing. Sometimes it’s the people behind your company, a new service you’re launching or a brand that’s ready to move to the next level. Whatever the brief, great commercial photography should do more than fill space on a website—it should help people understand who you are, what you do and why they should choose you.
That’s how I approach every commission.
I’m Guy Butler, a commercial photographer based in Surrey, working with businesses throughout the UK. Over the last decade I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph everything from international defence manufacturers and outdoor brands to healthcare providers, hospitality businesses, engineering companies and independent retailers. While every project is different, the objective is always the same: create photography that has a purpose.
I don’t believe in creating images simply because they look good. Every photograph should solve a problem. It might need to launch a new product, support a marketing campaign, build trust with prospective customers or help a business stand out in a competitive market. Understanding that objective is always the first step before the camera comes out.
Commercial Photography Built Around Your Business
No two businesses are the same, so no two shoots should be either.
Some projects require carefully controlled studio lighting and meticulous product photography. Others need to take place in busy workshops, factories, offices or out on location where real people are using real equipment. My role is to understand your business, your audience and your brand before creating imagery that feels authentic and supports your wider marketing.
Whether I’m photographing a luxury holiday let in Devon, producing marketing content for a hospitality business, documenting a healthcare clinic or creating product imagery for a tactical equipment manufacturer, the process always starts with the same question:
What story are we trying to tell?
Once that’s clear, everything else naturally follows.
Photography That Continues Working Long After the Shoot
One of the biggest investments a business can make is creating a professional image library.
Rather than producing a handful of photographs for one campaign, I plan every commission to create content that can be used across your website, social media, brochures, advertising, exhibitions, press releases, annual reports and future marketing activity.
The result is a collection of images that continues to work for your business long after the shoot has finished.
Industries I Regularly Work With
Over the years I’ve worked across a wide range of commercial sectors, including:
Defence and military
Manufacturing and engineering
Outdoor and lifestyle brands
Healthcare and wellbeing
Hospitality and tourism
Product manufacturers
Automotive
Property and architecture
Professional services
Small businesses and independent brands
Working across different industries has taught me that while every business is unique, the principles of good commercial photography remain the same: understand the audience, create authentic imagery and produce work that supports real business objectives.
Why Clients Choose guy butler photography
Commercial photography is about far more than turning up with a camera.
Clients often tell me they value the planning just as much as the finished images. From developing ideas and finding locations to organising logistics and helping people feel comfortable in front of the camera, I see myself as part of the wider creative process rather than simply the photographer.
That collaborative approach has led to long-term relationships with businesses that return year after year as their marketing evolves.
Recent Commercial Photography Projects
Every business presents a different challenge, which is exactly what keeps commercial photography interesting.
Recent projects have included producing cinematic product imagery for SOG Specialty Knives, photographing holiday accommodation in Dartmouth for Oaklea Airbnb, creating healthcare photography for Pea Green Physio, documenting craftsmanship for The House of Upholstery, filming promotional content for The Wheatsheaf, and producing visual content for defence manufacturers, engineering companies and outdoor brands throughout the UK.
Each project has its own story, and each one has helped shape the way I approach the next.
Commercial Photography Across Surrey and the UK
Although I’m based in Surrey, I regularly work across Hampshire, London, Devon and throughout the United Kingdom, travelling wherever a project takes me.
Whether you need commercial photography for a single campaign or you’re looking to build a complete marketing image library for your business, I’d love to hear about your plans.
If your business has a story worth telling, let’s create photography that helps people remember it.
